Umbrella Baby Shower

My co-worker Deanna asked me if I would make cookie favors for a baby shower she was throwing for her friend Alix.  I jumped at the chance, especially after seeing the adorable invitation!  As her party plans went along, Deanna decided to ask for cake balls and the cake as well.  I had a lot of fun putting these items together to match the theme.

This cute invitation was a great inspiration!

I tried out the Wilton "sugar sheets" for the cake decor, and was pleased with the outcome . . . I think they add an interesting dimension to the cake!

Congratulations to Alix and Doug!

Hope the shower was fun, Deanna!  And thank you for your donation to Susan G Komen!

Boobie cookies!

The reason I started this blog was to help publicize my baking and fundraising efforts for Susan G Komen. When I first signed up to walk in the 3 Day for the Cure in 2010, I did it as a personal challenge for myself - I didn't have a personal connection to breast cancer.   Since that time, I have come to know many people who have been affected by the disease - so many wonderful survivors and family members of people taken too soon, the cause has become something I truly believe in.  I am a firm supporter of the Susan G Komen motto - we do this "because everyone deserves a lifetime."

And now it has become truly personal.  A few weeks ago, one of my oldest and dearest friends called me with the terrible news:  she has breast cancer.    She is so important to me, and to her wonderful family and friends, who are all behind her 100% as she begins her battle with this awful disease.

A group of friends and neighbors got together last night to throw my friend a party, to show her how much we care, to laugh and to cry together.  It was a wonderful experience, and I was so glad to be a part of it.   My contribution were these "boobie" cookies.   They helped with the laughter part :)
